Dr. Wasunna Owino

Dr. Wasunna Owino is a seasoned leader of international health projects in Africa. He has spent over 20 years providing technical vision, managerial oversight and technical assistance to donor and government funded health projects. He combines solid analytical skills with special expertise in health systems strengthening (HSS) resulting in technical strategies and approaches that yield significant results . He is passionate about health financing and, policy design; human resources for health (HRH) and, leadership, management and, governance , with extensive work experience in the East, Central and Southern Africa region, more so, Kenya and South Sudan.

He served as the Country Director / Chief of Party (COP) for the IntraHealth International led – USAID Human Resources for Health Kenya Mechanism, COP for the Abt Associates led – USAID South Sudan Health Systems Strengthening Project and has served as Deputy Country Director and, Director of the Health Finance, Systems, and Policy Program for the Futures Group led – USAID Health Policy Initiative and, USAID Health Policy Projects I/II. He has served as lead consultant for several assignments by the World Bank and World Health Organization. 

Dr. Owino joined PharmAccess  Kenya in October 2021 from the Council of Governors (COG), where he served as the Health Financing Expert, seconded by the USAID as part of Team of Experts (TOE).
