Dr. John Muthee
Chief Executive Officer, Savannah Informatics
Central to John Muthee’s work is his use of technology to address barriers to universal health care coverage and education in Kenya. He co-founded Savannah Informatics (www.savannahinformatics.com), which provides digital solutions for more than 2,000 hospitals and doctors’ offices across Kenya and serves seven of the country’s largest health insurers—and enabling them to roll out quality and efficient health insurance services to thousands of Kenyans.
John believes that technology can equalize access to high quality education resources and allow students with various forms of disabilities to achieve better learning outcomes. He supports various initiatives that seek to strengthen the use of technology in the education sector and serves as a board member at the Women Institute for Education and Research (https://www.wisergirls.org/).
He is also Ford Global Fellow (https://www.fordfoundation.org/work/investing-in-individuals/the-ford-global-fellowship/) and has recently co-founded the Savannah Global Health Institute (www.savannahghi.org) to work on efforts that reduce inequalities in healthcare and medical education.
John has a Master degree from the Management in Clinical Informatics program at Duke University and trained as a medical doctor at the University of Nairobi’s School of Medicine. He has worked for the Ministry of Health as a doctor, as well as the Equity Group Foundation in their Education and Leadership Development Programs. From early 2019 to date, he has served as consultant with the International Finance Corporation/World Bank Group in their rollout of cutting edge technologies to the emerging markets through the TechEmerge Program (https://www.techemerge.org/)
